Cults have this uncanny ability to extract more and more from their members.   They do this in a variety of ways.    They have an uncanny ability to move your goal posts on you without giving you a thing for it.   They'll do this by talking about something and pretending to give you a listening ear while you grumble and grump.   It'll look like they are going to do something so you feel relieved only to find out a few minutes later that you are now agreeing to do more or give up more boundaries and they havne't even fulfilled anything yet. So they demand of you in exchange for something else and at the same time they have not done what they said they would and they'll leave you with you agreeing to take on more.  Then in a day or two you'll notice thaat they haven't changed a thing and they are doing the exact samething only you've done more on your end so now it's a bigger chasm of activity in between. That comes directly from a social media website and it's a good example of how exactly these abusive people start getting their claws into you and how they use it to get control of you. See, what they like to do is they like to constantly find things that you're insecure about or constantly find things that are true that are negative characteristics about you. So if you have low self-esteem and you are shy reading that will make you actually feel defective. It won't create a sense of loss as in your defectiveness has caused you to lose something because of it. This is what they want. They want you to turn on yourself and start attacking yourself in this way.  Cults often hone in on someone's biggest desires and weaknesses and they prey upon those in order to get you into a position where they can hammer on you to get you to conform to what they want you to be and act like.    They will find any reason at all to shame you.   It won't matter who you are or what you've done they will find something about you to shame you with and this is purposeful. In the case of belonging.   They will do everything in their power to make sure that you never feel like you belong.  This will keep you working extra hard to try to get membership and you try and try again to get approval.   They will leave you out of things, kick you out of the club, do whatever they can to make you feel like an outsider and keep you begging for the scraps of attention you get from them.  One of the strategies that cults use more increasingly as time goes on is the use of dark psychology to trap their victims.    They will analyze and  use your weaknesses against you in ways that you couldn't have imagined and the goal is to get control over you and for you to surrender your agency to them.   Once you get worn down  enough that you finally surrender to them then they effectively win. They will analyze you and get you to answer a lot of personal questions where they will profile you and they will get an understanding of your strengths and weaknesses.     For instance, if you had a childhood where you were shut down a lot and now have a reluctance to start conflict they will manufacture ways to get you to fail over and over to create a sense of helplessness within you while at the same time as breaking you of your habit of complaining.
